UK Minister for Africa comments on rape case in Somalia

(Medeshi) - Minister for Africa, Mark Simmonds, has commented on yesterday’s convictions in a rape case in Somalia. Minister for Africa, Mark Simmonds, said:
Minister for Africa Mark Simmonds“The UK is very concerned by the conviction yesterday of a woman in Somalia who alleged that she was raped, and of the journalist who investigated her case.

“The Foreign Secretary raised our concerns about this case during the Somali President’s visit to the UK this week. The President gave the Foreign Secretary assurances that his government takes a zero-tolerance approach to the perpetrators of sexual violence.

“We will be following up the case with the Somali Government. It is vital that the rights of both the individuals involved in this case are respected, including the right to a fair and transparent judicial process and the right of appeal. And it is essential that victims of rape or sexual violence are able to report such crimes without recrimination.

“We welcome the Somali Government’s plans to strengthen their police and justice system so that the rule of law can be established throughout Somalia. This case demonstrates the necessity to reform the judicial system. We have pledged to support their efforts, and have agreed with the Somali Government both to challenge impunity of perpetrators of sexual violence and to develop pilot programmes under the Foreign Secretary’s Prevent Sexual Violence Initiative. Both of these themes will be important components of the Somalia Conference in May.”

  1. Forgive me for being at best pessimistic at Hassan Mahamoud's Non-interest in matters concerning the rights of civilians.

If you listened to the response Hassan Mahamoud gave in Brussels in front of the EU Leaders regarding the "trial of the victim of rape".

Hassan Mahamoud's response was of a nature that gives me little to no hope that he understands the seriousness of the situation considering his own security forces were implicated.

Hassan Mahamoud is heard responding with excuses of non-interference in judicial matters however he also stated "there is no reason to suspect this lady is being targeted since she is not from a minority-clan". In other words the Minority clans women should not bother reporting rape crimes?

Hassan mahamoud has remained in Somalia throughout the last 22years of statelessness it is therefore reasonable to expect that he may have been desensitized by the over-exposure to death, rape and daily violence through which he did survive and thrive to accumulate millions when the only means of accumulating millions was through siphoning off Aid funds and food to be resold/reinvested for personal profit.

This man has come to beg the EU and the international community as a representative of a suffering people and he expects foreign nations to show kindness where he is finding it difficult to show any to a young mother that is still breast feeding her new born.

This same man has come to ask the world to give him Millions that will never reach the lips of the people he is pretending to represent, this wants the international community to better arm his security forces so they can oppress further and continue the rape and murder. Need i remind anyone that there are 54 rapes each day by mainly Security forces in the same city that Hassan mahamoud has a Presidential Vila where the international community pays $650million/year to keep him safe and secure. The same city where 18 journalists have been assassinated in the last 12months half of which Hassan Mahamoud has enjoyed his internationally donated private security.

    How many more go unreported?

Hassan Mahamoud is the perfect example of a gold-fish president and will forever remain totally illegitimate outside his Vila-Fish tank.

More weapons will only cause greater suffering... A time will come when the sponsors of fake presidents are themselves held accountable for their investments, please stop creating Dictators in Somalia they will only force more Somalis to migrate to the EU.
