Talks between Somalia and Somaliland to begin in Turkey

(Medeshi)- Talks between Somalia and Somaliland are due to commence in the coming days at Ankara. The talks will concentrate on the relations between the two neighbourly nations and how to facilitate the mutual cooperation on security and combating piracy.
Ministers of foreign affairs and presidency will represent Somaliland while the representatives of Somalia are not yet identified.
These talks are part of ongoing negotiations mediated by the government of Turkey. Somaliland wants the recognition of the federal republic of Somalia while Somalia wants to bring Somaliland back into unity with the federal republic of Somalia.
Somaliland seceded from the rest of Somalia on May 18 1991 after a blood y civil war that had left tens of thousands of civilians dead.
