Turkey : Talks between Somaliland and Somalia fail

(Medeshi)- Talks between Somaliland and Somalia have failed after the Somaliland delegation objected to some of the members representing Somalia. The talks were scheduled to be held in Istanbul , Turkey last Sunday.

At least three officials of the Somalia delegation hail from Somaliland , namely from Sool , Sanaag and Togdheer regions.

Somaliland delegation has objected to the inclusion in the talks of  Mohamed Mareye from Togdheer ,  Saeed Qorsheel from Sanaag and   Ali Jama Jengeli from Sool. All of these three officials hail from Somaliland .
Somaliland has put a condition that until the above mentioned officials  were removed from the negotiations table , there will be no  talks with Somalia.
It is not clear why the Somaliland delegation had gone ahead with the travel to Turkey as they knew in advance about the list of the delegation from Somalia for the talks.
This is a set back for the talks mediated by Turkey between the two countries and it is not known if there will be any further talks in the near future.

Somaliland seceded from Somalia on May 18   1991 after a bloody civil war that had  left tens of thousands dead.
