6 executed by firing squad in Somaliland

(Medeshi)- 6 convicted criminals were executed today by firing squad in Mandhera , according to local sources.

Mandhera is a prison located between Hargiesa and Berbera and was built during the colonial era.
These were among more than 30 criminals waiting for the death squad in prisons.
It is the first time that Somaliland has carried out death penalty in more than 20 years .
This is also a sign that Somaliland has opted to reinstate capital punishment after recent increase in killings particularly within the security forces and the army.
In the last few weeks a policeman shot a prominent businessman at a checkpoint close to the capital. Another soldier has killed a colleague in Lasanod  while a third  one killed his commander in Sanaag.
