Ethiopia FM addresses the inauguration of the Jubaland Parliament

(Medeshi)- The inauguration of the Interim Jubaland Parliament took place in Kismayo on Thursday (May 7) attended by Somalia Federal and regional leaders, the Foreign Ministers of Ethiopia and Kenya and representatives from IGAD member states,  partners and Jubaland people.

Those present included President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, Dr. Tedros, and Ms. Amina Mohamed, as well as Jubaland leader Sheikh Ahmed Mohamed Islam (Madobe) and Puntland Vice-President Abdhakim Abdullahi Haji Omar. Dr. Tedros, welcoming the opportunity to be present, said the Parliament had been established thanks to the strong commitment of both the Federal Government and the Jubaland regional leaders. He welcomed the discussion process that had produced successful relations between the two, with the President of Somalia being the first president to visit Jubaland and Sheikh Madobe frequently visiting Mogadishu. For neighboring countries, Ethiopia, Kenya and Djibouti, he said “Somalia’s unity is our unity and Somalia’s prosperity is our prosperity,” adding that “we are with you in every step of the moves Somalia is making in the right direction.” Dr. Tedros said Somalia was changing. It was normal and open for business. IGAD, he said, fully supported Somalia’s development to achieve, “what we all deserve: peace, development, prosperity and democracy.”
