Ethiopian Forces Enter Kenya, Take Over Police Station

(Medeshi)- Security agents are reported to be on alert after 50 heavily-armed Ethiopian soldiers and police officers crossed the border and reportedly took over a police station in Illeret Police Station in North Horr in Kenya.


According to Kenya Newspaper, the Daily Nation, the Ethiopians armed with AK47 rifles arrived in 10 vehicles, disembarked and took strategic positions around the police station. They inspected the area and took photos of the area.

This is the third time Ethiopian forces have crossed into Kenya this year which is which is 16 kilometres from the border. According to a brief from the Inspector-General of Police Joseph Boinnet’s office in Nairobi “Their intention is not clear,” The Kenya Defence Forces have however dismissed such reports saying Ethiopians are a friendly nation.

“Illeret Police Station has nine officers only, but the few who are there remain on high alert, monitoring the border,” the brief read.

North Horr OCPD Tom Odero said the Ethiopians stormed the station a few days after Kenyan and Ethiopian surveyors concluded surveying and demarcating the border.
