Somaliland- Demonstrations planned for Monday to protest election delay

(Medeshi)- The main Somaliland opposition party (Wadani) has called for demonstrations through out Somaliland to protest against the decision of the house of elders (Guurti) to delay Somaliland elections until Nov 2016.

Earlier,  the National Election Commission (NEC ) has declared that elections will take place on 1st June 2016. The ruling party then lobbed the house of elders ( Guurti) requesting further period in order to prepare for the elections.
Sources in Somaliland have informed Medeshi that security around the Presidential Palace  and Houses of Parliament has been tightened while the Rapid Reaction Unit police (RRU)  have been put on alert to quell any protests on Monday.
Somaliland seceded from Somalia on May 18 1991. The country has since held two presidential elections , one parliamentary election and three local elections .
