Somaliland halts accepting refugees fleeing Yemen war

(Medeshi)-Hargeisa -  Somaliland government has announced that it will stop accepting Somali refugee fleeing the war in Yemen starting Monday the 25th of May 2015.

These refugees have been living in Yemen for some time and are now fleeing the conflict in that country. Most refugees fleeing the Yemen conflict since the start of the war have entered Somaliland through Berbera port .
Interior Minister Ali Mohamed, told the press in Hargeisa that the reason behind this decision is because the United Nations and the international community have failed to provide the necessary aid for these refugees. The minister also sited economic and security  challenges  brought by the refugees.
Somaliland, once a British protectorate, broke away from Somalia in 1991 but has remained unrecognized by the international community.

Unlike Somalia, the region does receive international funding.
