Burundi soldiers commended as they conclude their tour of duty in Somalia

(Medeshi)- Burundi peacekeepers in AMISOM were commended for their dedication and selfless leadership on duty by the Deputy Special Representative of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission for Somalia, Lydia Wanyoto.

She was speaking at a ceremony in Mogadishu during which medals were awarded to 1,828 soldiers from the 26th and 27th battalions, who have completed their tour of duty in Somalia. Present at the ceremony was AMISOM Force Commander, Lt. General. Jonathan Rono who said the soldiers had performed impressively well, operationally, as shown in their ability to implement their “robust and numerous day and night patrols, cordon and search operations and escort to humanitarian aid duties” This confirmed how well-trained and prepared they were said General Rono who saluted the soldiers for their resilience and commitment to duty, noting that they had defied great difficulties to succeed in their mission.
