A UAE ambassador has survived an apparent suicide attack on his vehicle while travelling in the Somali capital of Mogadishu, according to reports on Wednesday.
"The suicide car bomb hit a military car. So far three people were killed, including civilians. Seven others were injured and rushed to hospital," Major Farah Abdikadir, a police officer, told Reuters.
UAE ambassador Mohamed Al Othman was present in the vehicle when it was targeted, but he is said to have survived the attack, which took place near the Turkish embassy in Mogadishu.
Somali Islamist militant group Al Shabaab has claimed responsibility for the attack, in whaat is its second attack in a number of days.
