2 towns in southern Somalia seized by Al-Shabaab militant group

The small towns of El Saliindi and Kuntuwarey are now under the militants' control

RT- Two towns in the Lower Shabelle region in southwestern Somalia have been captured over a 48-hour period by Al-Shabaab Islamist militants, Reuters reported on Saturday, citing local officials.

The small towns of El Saliindi and Kuntuwarey are now under the militants' control, the acting governor of Lower Shabelle, Ali Nur, has confirmed. An African Union (AU) convoy has also been recently attacked with a roadside bomb, the official said.
The militant group, which is affiliated with Al-Qaeda terrorists, was pushed out of the Somalia capital of Mogadishu by AU peacekeeping forces in 2011, but Al-Shabaab militants continue their efforts to overthrow the government, staging attacks both on local officials and AU peacekeepers.
