England- Somali men jailed for 30 years for gang rape

The group – Muhyadeen Osman, Bilal Ahmed and Mowled Yussuf – were 17 when a friend brought a girl round, saying she should “meet his boys”.

One by one they sexually assaulted her in a hotel bathroom in Rusholme, Manchester, after they evaded a hotel porter to carry out their heinous crimes

At Manchester Crown Court Yussuf was jailed for 10 years, Ahmed got nine years and Osman was imprisoned for 12 years.

Around 60 members of Manchester’s Somalian community protested against the verdicts suggesting the gang had been victimised because of their race.

The group managed to pile into the public gallery and could be heard gasping when the verdicts were read out.

Yussuf flicked a middle finger at the victim’s mother.
On the night of the attack in August 2013 the three boys managed to find a room which had an unlocked door.

Yussuf was first to force the girl to perform a sex act on him in the bathroom.

She repeatedly told the group she didn’t want to have sex.

Ahmed then forced her to perform a sex act on him – before Osman raped her on the bed.

Their victim, now a university student, was left alone after the gang fled.

Later she realised that her mobile phone and cash had been taken from her handbag.
Out of “embarrassment and shame”, she initially only reported the theft but the day after the attack on August 9 2013 she revealed the extent of her ordeal.

CCTV then captured the group and the girl disappearing into one hotel room for around 30 minutes while the attacks took place.

Jailing the men, Judge David Hernandez said: “This was a large group of young men in a hotel and the inference is you all saw her as easy prey.

“She didn’t really understand what was on your mind and that is probably because she was a na├»ve and sexually inexperienced and vulnerable young girl.

“It all turned sinister when you got her into the bathroom. She found herself in a situation she was totally unable to control.

“She had no choice and no opportunity to refuse.”
