Somali Pirates Kidnap Pakistani Ship

Islamabad, Apr 5 (Prensa Latina) Somali pirates kidnapped a Pakistani-flagged merchant ship days after capturing another Indian vessel, today reported Geo TV.

The news channel said that Salama 1 was intercepted yesterday off the coast of the African country, although the number of crew members is unknown

Abdillahi Ahmed Ali, mayor of Hobyo town, on the central coast of Somalia, explained that the ship was sent to the nearby locality of El Hur, one of the pirates' bases.

The Indian vessel Al Kausar, captured on Saturday when traveling from Dubai to the Yemeni port of Mukalla with 11 crew members, is also anchored in the area.

On March 13, the pirates kidnapped Sri Lankan-flagged Aris 13 tanker, although it was later released, and 11 days later another Somali vessel.

'It is clear that Somali pirates are resurfacing and are planning to continue their attacks on commercial ships,' warned yesterday the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime.
