18 year engineer of Somali origin stabbed to death at Shepherds Bush in London

(Evening Standard) -Aspiring engineer Yusuf Mohamed, 18, was in “the wrong place at the wrong time”, his family said today.

Chelsea supporter Yusuf died after being knifed in the chest by one of two young men who waited outside Intercontinental Foods in Uxbridge Road on Wednesday night.

According to a witness, the teenager put his arms up to show he was unarmed but was attacked with a long blade.
His killers followed him inside the store and are said to have stabbed him again as he attempted to hide in a basement.

A cousin told the Standard Yusuf’s family was still in shock: “His mum isn’t even able to hold a conversation she is so upset.
"We have gathered the whole family around us for support. We are celebrating Yusuf’s life, and remembering him.

“He was a young man who was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Nothing is going to bring him back now.”

Yusuf’s father Abdulahi Ulusow, 62, said yesterday he moved his family to the UK from war-torn Somalia 20 years ago for a “better and safer” life.

Mayor Sadiq Khan said he was “fed up” with young Londoners losing their lives to the capital’s knife crime epidemic.

Sending his condolences to Yusuf’s family, he told LBC last night: “I’m sure I speak on behalf of all Londoners when I say that our hearts go out to his family.”

“All of us should be angry and fed up with young Londoners losing their lives and their potential being sacrificed.”

Yusuf was London’s eighth murder in 13 days and the 11th teenager to be killed this year in a stabbing.
Police investigating Yusuf’s murder appealed for anyone who saw two men fleeing towards East Acton Tube station to come forward.

Detective Chief Inspector Rob Pack said: “We have already carried out extensive CCTV enquiries and I am now particularly keen to speak with anyone who saw two males, possibly aged in their teens, who we know ran from the scene heading in the direction of Wormholt Park.

“They then took the underpass under the Westway towards East Acton Underground Station.”

He said there have been no arrests and enquiries continu

Last night a 17-year-old was stabbed in a fight in Blackgrove Crescent, Eastcote around 10.50pm. He was taken to hospital where his condition is stable.
