(Medeshi) - MOGADISHU, Somalia, Sept. 19 (UPI) -- A quarry on the outskirts of Mogadishu, Somalia, collapsed Thursday, killing more than 20 people, officials said.
About 150 people were working at the quarry at the time of the collapse, Ali Mohamed Mohamud, head of the quarry miners, told Shabelle Media Network.
Many workers are still trapped underneath rocks, Mohamud said.
Mohamud has requested immediate assistance from local government and business firms for rescue operations, which were being carried out without special equipment.
The cause of the collapse was not reported.
