Saudi Arabia : No Haj visas for old and sick

(Medeshi) - RIYADH: Arab News - To prevent the spread of Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus (MERS-CoV), the elderly and those suffering from chronic diseases will not get Haj visas this year, the Ministry of Health announced here yesterday.

Saudi Arabia warns pilgrims over coronavirus

(Medeshi) - Health officials in Saudi Arabia have asked pilgrims visiting its holy sites to wear masks in crowded places to stop the spread of the MERS coronavirus.
A list of requirements issued by the health ministry also tells elderly people or those with chronic diseases to postpone their pilgrimage.
Thirty-eight people have died from the virus in Saudi Arabia.

Vanoil Energy Company from Canada which has been prospecting for oil in Modogashe area of the County is threatening to suspend all its activities until contentious issues raised by area residents are ironed out. The County risks losing out on billions of shillings that could have emanated from oil proceeds.

(Medeshi) - LOS ANGELES, Jul 12 – A Saudi princess was to be released from US jail on bail Thursday after being charged with enslaving a Kenyan woman, forcing her to work in abusive conditions and withholding her passport.
Meshael Alayban, 42, one of six wives of a grandson of the Saudi King Abdullah, paid a $5 million bond and surrendered her passport, the Orange County, California district attorney’s office said in a statement.

London Heathrow: Ethiopian Airlines Plane Catches Fire On Runway

(Medeshi) - A fire on a parked Ethiopian Airlines Dreamliner plane has forced both runways at Heathrow Airport to close.
Nobody was on board the aircraft and no injuries have been reported.
A spokesperson for the airport said the plane suffered an onboard internal fire.
All arrivals and departures have been suspended at the West London airport due to the fire which was reported shortly after 4.30pm.

Somalia :Three dead in attack on African troops in Mogadishu

(Medeshi) - At least three people were killed Friday when a suicide bomber rammed a car laden with explosives into a convoy of African Union troops in the Somali capital, police said.
"Three people are confirmed dead, and three others injured," said police official Ahmed Muktar, who was near the scene of the blast, the latest in a string of explosions in the dangerous capital.
"I saw a car speeding towards the convoy, then it was a huge explosion, buildings all around were rocked by the blast," said Hussein Gure, a witness who was driving nearby when the car exploded.

Malta cancels migrant flights after European court order

(Medeshi) -  Malta cancelled two flights to return migrants to Libya after the European Court of Human Rights issued an interim measure banning repatriation.

The court's written decision was handed to Prime Minister Joseph Muscat on Tuesday evening as he addressed parliament about his concern over a growing migration crisis.
