Competition for resources sparks friction between refugees, locals in South Sudan – UN

 - New York, Mar 21 2014  
Amid tit-for-tat attacks between locals and refugees sparked by food shortages in an area of South Sudan's volatile Upper Nile state, the United Nations refugee agency said today that it is gravely concerned about new tensions rising in the region. 

“Local residents [in Maban County] are now demanding that the some 60,000 refugees in Yusuf Batil and Gendrassa camps leave within two months,” Fatoumata Lejeune-Kaba, a spokesperson for the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), <"http://www.unhcr.org/532c1aa46.html">told journalists in Geneva, adding that hostilities have also spread to Doro and Kaya camps.

Telecoms supplier BT could be called to account for drone deaths in Somalia and Yemen

 - By By Mark Ballard - Computer Weekly -Telecoms supplier BT could be asked to account for drone attacks in Yemen and Somalia after connecting a fibre-optic cable to a US military base conducting the strikes.

The revelation comes from a high-level review of a complaint that the £23m BT communications line supported drone missions that had accidentally killed between 426 and 1005 civilians in the last decade in the course of strikes on suspected insurgents, according to estimates of the Bureau of Investigative Journalism.
