(Medeshi)- An SUV driver accused of deliberately running down a Muslim teenager in Kansas City was charged Friday with first-degree murder in a case that's being investigated by federal authorities as a possible hate crime.
Ahmed H. Aden, 34, of Kansas City, was charged Friday in Jackson County in the crash outside a Somali community center that killed 15-year-old Abdisamad Sheikh-Hussein. Prosecutors are requesting a $250,000 bond. No attorney is listed for Aden in online court records.

Somali PM voted out of office by parliament

Kenya, Ethiopia in talks to create buffer zone in Somalia

(Medeshi)- NAIROBI, Dec. 3 -- Kenya and Ethiopia are in discussions to create a buffer zone inside Somalia along their respective borders to deter Al-Shabaab attacks, a senior government official said on Wednesday.
Deputy President William Ruto decried that the existing 800km porous border which Kenya shares with Somalia has made it difficult to curb cross-border terror attacks mounted by Al- Shabaab.

Al-Shabab claims deadly Mogadishu bombing

(Medeshi)- At least four people have been killed in a car-bomb attack close to the heavily fortified gates of the airport in Mogadishu, Somali police say.
Both the airport and the adjoining UN mission have been frequently targeted in the past by the Somali armed group al-Shabab, which is fighting to overthrow the country's internationally backed government.

UK- Eight Somalian men and women discovered hiding in lorry in East Molesey

(Medeshi)- By Ellie Cambridge , Surrey Comet  - Noises coming from the back of a lorry alerted the driver to discover eight people had hitched a ride into the country.
A person saw the parked lorry in Palace Road, East Molesey, and said it looked like the driver was making a delivery and opened the back to reveal the unsolicited passengers.

Gunmen kill 36 workers in Kenyan quarry

(Medeshi) - Gunmen killed 36 workers in an attack on a quarry in Kenya's Mandera county, which borders Somalia, said the county governor on Tuesday who drew a parallel with another recent raid by al Shabaab militants.

By Will Smale- BBC- In the years following the attacks of 11 September 2001, it is not surprising that Western security forces and authorities clamped down hard on the money transfer industry.
Fearful that some remittances being sent to countries in eastern Africa, the Middle East and South Asia could be being used to fund terrorist activities, a number of smaller money transfer companies were shut down.
While completely understandable from a security point of view, the knock-on effect was that many innocent people in places such as Somalia suddenly found that it was much more difficult to receive vital funds from expat relatives living in the West.

HARGEISA, Nov 30 (Reuters) - Somalia's breakaway enclave of Somaliland formally opened its first commercial bank on Sunday, as part of its effort to attract foreign lenders.
President Ahmed Mohamed Silanyo officially inaugurated Dahabshil International Commercial Bank in Hargeisa, calling it a "vanguard for national development and progress".
