US drone strike kills top Al-Shabaab leader in Somalia

(Medeshi)- MOGADISHU - Anadolu Agency - A top leader of the Qaeda-linked Al-Shabaab movement and some movement members were killed on Saturday in a strike believed to be carried out by a U.S. drone, a Somali official has said.

Motive Behind Verbal Offensive of Puntland Against Somaliland Questioned

(Medeshi)- The Somaliland Vice Minister for national Security, H.E. Ali Mohamed Elmi,  questioned the true motive behind untimely and very undiplomatic terms the  ‘ Security Minister’ of the regional state of Puntland that comes under the Federal Republic of Somalia, used to accuse Somaliland of a complicity with Al Shebab in relation to the military arsenal that the Somaliland authorities discovered aboard a ship that docked on Berbera Port last week.

More than two decades of claiming sovereignty, Somaliland refused to sit and talk with Somalia. But finally Silanyo’s led Somaliland accepted the bitter reality: all roads go through Mogadishu, leaving self-proclaimed sovereignty behind.  Last month or so; amid ongoing preparation of the lavish wedding of his eldest daughter’s remarriage, president Silanyo postponed the wedding celebrations then flew to Djibouti to participate in one of his last-ditch talks with Somalia. In scorching day, a group of poorly fed people were dropped in the airport to make “sacabka,” or applaud the president” while they’re intimidated by obese looking brutes during the president’s arrival to the gate.

Erdogan: The hero of Somalia

(Medeshi)- By Abukar Arman - There was never any doubt that Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan would receive a hero's welcome in Somalia. On Thursday, he vowed to go ahead with the trip despite a bomb attack at a hotel in the Somali capital, Mogadishu, on the eve of his planned visit. Later his office announced he would delay it by a couple of days in order to attend the funeral of Saudi Arabia's King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz.
